Happy Memorial Day! I'm so excited to share our weekend trip to NYC with you all! Remember our recent impromptu trip to Marblehead? Well, last week we realized we should take advantage of this 3-day weekend, so we booked another last minute trip to New York City! It was such a dream and a blur, but as you know us bloggers are pretty good at documenting so you can follow along on our adventures!

Luckily I packed this Rio Tropical Wrap Skirt c/o Tobi, which has officially proven itself and won me over! How absolutely perfect are its colors and print for spring and summer?? The wrap design offers some give when going on long walks, and the slight slit is much appreciated in 90 degree humid weather conditions! I literally cannot stop wearing it! I've been a fan of Tobi since my college days at UCLA, so I am so excited to collaborate with them and share their pieces with you all!

Our NYC hotel was on Park Avenue, just a 10 minute walk from the empire state building, and the nearest train station turned out to be Grand Central Station! We took the Bolt Bus down from Boston which was just $35 each way as opposed to over $100 if we had taken the train, and they take the same amount of time (about 3 hours). We may splurge and take the train for our next trip though, since the bus isn't very roomy and the wifi was broken both ways! Still, we saved a lot of money which I gladly spent on some Big Apple food, culture, and shopping, obviously!

Our first stop was the Met Museum, with a quick pit stop at the Empire State Building of course!

All major museum entries in New York are on a pay-what-you-will basis, so it doesn't have to cost you an arm and a leg to get some culture in. The Met also has this rooftop with an incredible view of the city and skyline!

This was definitely the most challenging outfit shoot I've done to date, since it was about 90 degrees out and there was a constant gathering of people who wanted to take pictures here, but I did it!

The combination of my new fun Tobi skirt and trendy fringe necklace from Wild Juniper (scroll to the bottom of this post for a direct link!) made me feel extra stylish and ready to take on the city that never sleeps!

Below are a couple of my favorite pieces from the Met. Stay tuned for a post on their Manus x Machina fashion exhibit, spotlighting style in the age of technology!

Bridge over a Pond of Water Lilies, Claude Monet, 1899. How nice would it be to take a stroll on that bridge!

A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, Georges-Pierre Seurat, 1885.

After the Met, we grabbed some lunch at an amazing Turkish spot (stay tuned for that post!), and took a stroll through the lively jungle that is Central Park. We stumbled upon the Loeb Boathouse which I desperately want to go back to and rent out a rowboat. This scene reminded me so much of the above painting!

This wrap skirt reminds me of when I used to dance Hula & Tahitian, and we would wear the funnest wrap skirts called pareos! It's honestly is so fun and carefree, and will liven up any outfit, not to mention being so perfect for strolling through the city or having a picnic in the park! Plus, first time Tobi customers get a full 50% off of their first order! This is so insane because their prices are already super reasonable, so definitely go check them out and grab the cutest pieces before they sell out!

Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale Alert

I don't know about you, but I'm very much already in 3-day weekend mode! We're heading to NYC for a fun trip, much like our recent impromptu trip to Marblehead. I'm so excited to get in the summer mood, adventure around, see the sights, and get some good grub (and hopefully some good blog shots while we're there)!

I'm super excited about Nordstrom's half yearly sale because you can find cute summer prices at ridiculously slashed prices, like these square studded earrings which are 2 sets for just $10!

This super trendy off-shoulder top is just $38, and it's actually not even on sale! I just added it because I'm clearly obsessed. I adore how it combines two trends this summer - off shoulder and lace!

How could you not love these studded t-strap pumps? I'm swooning over their color and how much more affordable they are than their Valentino counterparts! They also come in 4 other colors so I'm tempted to get more than one!

This print camisole dress is another one I'm about to add to my closet. It's the perfect flowy dress to wear on a hot day, and the color and print are so pretty! Plus, it's less than $25. That's my kinda deal!

It's always fun to switch up your phone case, and this carefree ice cream summer case is cute as a button! Just think of the Instagram photos! Also, now I want ice cream.

So this post clearly reflects how my thoughts are all about summer, adventures, and deals lately! Hope you score something good in the sale - treat yourself!

Impromptu Trip to Marblehead + Passiana Jewelry Review

passiana jewelry review
Necklace: c/o Passiana | Dress: Target | Sandals: c/o Bearpaw | Bag:c/o Desigual
*Note: This is a sponsored post. All opinions are my own. Thanks for supporting those who support Chow Down USA!

This weekend we realized we've been in Boston over 2 years now, and still haven't explored the majority of the New England coastal towns. Sure, we made a point to visit Salem around Halloween like true tourists, and a made a few fun trips to Cape Cod. But we're definitely behind the game in the smaller towns, so today we took a super impromptu Sunday drive up to Lynn, Swampscott, and Marblehead to see the sights! We were blown away by this super scenic view of the Atlantic ocean. There were dogs frolicking on the beach and the crisp smell of sea salt in the air.

What better place to introduce you to the high-end jewelry line from Passiana! This Gold Branch Bib necklace in particular really caught my eye for nostalgic reasons. I've always been partial to Sleeping Beauty, and any Disney fan knows her common name is Briar Rose, which I think is the prettiest bohemian name.

This intricate and glam necklace really reminds me of her name and story - the idea is that no matter how many branches and thorns were in the way, perseverance, truth, and virtue will get you through all obstacles. That message always stuck with me and I love having a statement necklace to cherish and give me strength in that way. See? Fashion can be deeper and more meaningful than what's on the surface!

Passiana is high end jewelry so it's a bit on the pricey side, but all you lucky Chow Down readers get 50% off with code Thankyou50!

I really enjoyed our impromptu trip, and I hope we take more soon! It reminded me a lot of our cross country roadtrip adventures moving out from San Francisco to Boston. After all, exploring new places can never get old, right?

Scampo Boston Review

Looking for fantastic Italian food in Boston? Scampo could be your first and last stop, that's just how good it is. It's situated within the Liberty Hotel, a former jailhouse-turned-chic-dining destination. You may remember my previous post on Clink Restaurant, which is also in the Liberty Hotel.

We came with the same foodie friends that brought us to Boston Chops, and Scampo was just as good in it's own right!

Our server was pretty sassy, but the food was so good we didn't even care. The pistachio + pesto paste for the initial breadsticks was incredibly bright and fresh.

You know a restaurant is good when you order something as simple as the gluten free Spaghetti Pomodoro and it makes you feel like you've never truly had this dish until that moment. The basil was so fresh it brightened up every bite, and you could practically taste each tomato in the sauce as if you were biting right into each one. Oh, did I mention that Scampo has a mozzarella bar? So the mozzarella here is obviously the best I've ever had.

This is the show-stopper, folks. On Saturday nights, the special is Lamb Al Forno (baked in the oven). It may not look Pinterest-worthy, but it's definitely write-home-about-it's-deliciousness-worthy. It literally melts in your mouth, and each piece is packed with way more flavor than you were expecting. It's not like lamb in other restaurants, where it's tough and you have to chew it for 5 straight minutes. It's tender and scrumptious, a must-try.

How pretty is the Dark Chocolate Truffle Tart? With white chocolate zabaglione and salted caramel ice cream, this was said to be spectacular.

Who doesn't love warm chocolate chip cookies and ice cold milk?

I've saved the best dessert for last! I got the Strawberries N' Cream, with Oven Roasted Strawberries, Vanilla Bean Panna Cotta, and Strawberry-Lime Sorbet. That white and black gelatin looking plateau was a wiggly optical illusion. It looks like it would be pretty mild in taste, but when you bite in it tastes like strawberries and cream, in a bold way! I loved the gorgeous presentation too.

All in all, I definitely recommend Scampo for Italian lovers in New England, even if you're gluten-free!

Audubon Boston Review

audubon boston review

I can't stress this enough - service is so important to me when dining out! It's my number one pet peeve, hands down. Patrons leave their house and pay more money to be taken care of at a restaurant. In the past I've served as a barista for Blue Bottle coffee and know how customers should be treated, so I have pretty low tolerance for rudeness from waitstaff.

This certainly isn't our first time eating here. You may remember my previous post on Audubon Boston, which was filled with pickled veggies and spicy mussels. We've been here a handful of times, and usually the service is knowledgeable and pleasant, so I was surprised when right off the bat, our server was less-than-friendly.

I'm not a fan of crab, so I asked if the shrimp and crab risotto was pre-made at all. She made a face as if to say "of course not," yet when I asked for it to come without crab she said she didn't think that would be possible. When I started to inquire why it wouldn't be possible since it's not pre-made, she literally cut me off and said "I'll just have to check on that. I don't know, I'll just have to check," and proceeded to walk away. Rude!

She ended up returning saying it was in fact pre-made (no apologies), so I decided to go with the burger instead (with gluten-free bun, which is a plus at least)! However, when I ordered my burger I asked for it to be cooked medium. Right before she left our table she said "ok great, medium-well!" So I corrected her to have it be cooked medium. It came back well-done. Like, extremely well-done! It was charred on the outside and dark on the inside.

When I brought this up to her, instead of apologizing or even looking at my plate, she just took the plate and said she'll bring another one. At this point my boyfriend had practically finished his food, and I had to wait for an entirely new burger to be cooked. The fact that she didn't even acknowledge the inconvenience or feign empathy was disappointing from a customer standpoint. Yes, she took the plate without question, but it definitely felt like it was just a bare minimum of effort. It felt like she was having a palpably bad day, and your customers should just not feel that while dining.

That said, the back patio itself was warm and lovely, the host was extremely friendly. I have not given up on Audubon as our other experiences there were so pleasant.

To start, we ordered the honey-jalapeno glazed wings with a side of dill dressing. These were delicious and not too spicy.

The kale salad is always good here, with butternut squash, red onion, almonds, yogurt dressing, and parmesan. Super fresh and healthy, what's not to love?

Here's where the meal went a bit south. My medium burger came out super well-done, bummer!

Yes, I was actually able to wear a dress and my Bearpaw sandals on this warm day!

How pretty are these colorful flowers in full bloom!

We headed to 16 Handles (which I believe is a play on Sixteen Candles but I can't think of the connection?) for some delish fro-yo! I got Salted Caramel, Chocolate Caramel Crunch, and my ultimate favorite - Cinnamon Rice Pudding! I added chocolate chips, sprinkles, and strawberries, so it's basically a healthy snack, right?

JORD Wooden Watches for Graduation Gifts

JORD Wood Watches for Graduation

I know it's hard to believe, but graduation day is right around the corner, guys! Many of us know someone who's graduating this year, whether it's a friend from grad school, or a younger sibling or cousin. My boyfriend recently graduated with a Master's in Chemical Biology and I could not be more proud of him!

It can be super tough to find that perfect graduation gift, though. After all, it's meant to congratulate them on something so symbolic - graduating from one phase of their life to another. This brings not only a diploma, but visions of a brighter future and sheer will to succeed. Graduation embodies the fact that the student has excelled and closed one chapter of his/her life, and is preparing to launch into the next phase.

Enter JORD wooden watches. Honestly, nothing says you're mature and in control of your days more than a high quality timepiece! A good watch signifies that you're going places, and you're getting there on time. JORD goes one step further, since it's watches are crafted in wood. This gives each piece an incredibly unique and rustic feel.

Couple the gift of a JORD wooden watch along with a bouquet of flowers and a nice planner, and you've officially hit the graduation present jackpot!

JORD offers a collection of wooden watches for both men and women, and I'm pretty smitten with all of them! I went with the Sidney in maple & rose gold (I'm obsessed with rose gold this season), which comes with 12 Swarovski crystals (yes please!) inlaid in the watch bezel, along with sapphire crystal glass. It would make a classy graduation present to say the least!

Now for the fun part: Follow the link below to be entered to win a $75 voucher towards your very own JORD watch! Plus, those who do not win will still receive a $20 voucher. Every single person! Thank you JORD!
