There are so many trends I'm loving this season, from velvet to mixing prints to burgundy. This shade truly encompasses fall - it's darker than summer hues but still filled with rich color. I can't get enough of it! I'm sure I'll buy one too many dresses, sweatshirts and shoes in burgundy this season and totally kill the trend, but until then, I'm hooked!

Bell sleeves are another fun craze that add drama and romance to any top or dress. The cutouts on these bell sleeves remind me of tunics from Medieval times, like something Drew Barrymore's character would have worn in Ever After. That reminds me, I really want to go to a Medieval festival this fall! Mental note made.

We shot these photos last weekend, and already it's too cool to wear this one without tights now! Luckily, it will look just as cute if not cuter paired with leggings and a cozy military jacket.

I paired it with brown ankle booties and a black cross body because I'm just such a rebel.

One of my favorite aspects of this dress is actually the super soft drawstrings at the neck. You know those velvety ropes to tie back curtains? It's soft like that. Couldn't you just picture wearing this to go apple picking, choosing a pumpkin or sipping hot cider? I know I can, and I plan to do all of those things asap!

New Rod Dee Fenway Review

New Rod Dee Fenway Review

Thai food is one of my favorite cuisines, hands down. From curries to noodle dishes, each plate has so much flavor and the presentation is often colorful and appealing. A lot of the dishes use rice noodles which are gluten free, which is always a plus for me!

One of my favorite Thai restaurants in Boston is New Rod Dee, located in Fenway's Restaurant Row. Sound familiar? This strip of delicious multicultural restaurants is also home to one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Boston, El Pelon. Restaurant row is a little known local secret, offering everything from Middle Eastern to Japanese food, all on one block. Plus, it's around the corner from one of my favorite stores: Target. Basically it's just a really pleasant area!

New Rod Dee Fenway Review

We sat on the communal patio dining tables and chowed down. I ordered the Pad See You, which has wide noodles, Chinese broccoli, and tofu. It's a bit sweet and salty from the soy sauce in it's sauce, with generous portions. Let's just say if I could eat this all day every day, I wouldn't hesitate.

New Rod Dee Fenway Review

Above is the yellow curry, which is a very mild curry that comes with potatoes, veggies and chicken. This one is just as scrumptious in it's own way.

All in all, I definitely recommend New Rod Dee to Thai food lovers in Boston. Other Thai places I've tried here have dry chicken, or they skimp on the tofu, or their greens aren't fresh enough. But New Rod Dee seems to be consistently up to standards on all ingredients. A friend of a friend who is from Thailand also vouched for it, saying it's the place he goes for food that reminds him of home.

Insider's tip: Be sure to bring cash to pay. They have an atm inside, but you're better off getting something at Target around the corner for some cash back to avoid those crazy atm fees!

P.S. How great was this lighting? Remember when I was saying how lighting is the most important aspect of photography? The proof is in the pudding! Or the Thai food in this case.

Boston College Fashion Week

I got a press pass to a really cool event this weekend that I must share with you all - the Boston College Fashion Week show (you may have seen my boomerang on Instagram about it)!

Run by Her Campus Media, this was a super fun event that took place in the Revere Hotel and showcased stylish outfits across four fashion shows, as well as great stations to visit like the European Wax Center where I got my brows done by the experts!

It was clear that these "experts in eyebrows" definitely know what they're doing and I can't wait to go in for a full appointment soon!

It may be silly but I was really excited to see my name on a VIP chair in the front row!

This shot is from the second show of the night, which was my favorite. It featured festival clothing from the indie brand Vici Collection of the Foray Collective.

Other shows included "study chic" outfits, Greek rush clothing, and girl's night out themed fashion. The themes brought new energy to each show, and you could tell the models were having fun with it. All of the models are college students, so they represented all shapes and sizes which was great to see.

From the stations to the fashion shows themselves, this was such a fun event! We got to mingle with local bloggers and fellow fashion lovers, and I even got to meet a couple of girls I knew from Instagram! The energy in the event space was filled with excitement, and when the fashion shows began the bright lights went up and the cameras went off like crazy. It was like something out of a posh movie or tv show, so thrilling!

If you get a chance to go to a show like this I highly recommend it. Be sure to see my post featuring the OTS top and distressed jeans outfit which I wore to the show!

With the temperatures in Boston hovering around the 60s lately, I think it's safe to say we're officially in fall now - bring on hot apple cider, pumpkin carving, and cozy treats! The daytime isn't too chilly, especially when you're in the sun, but the at night the temps are really starting to drop.

This off-the-shoulder striped top c/o Romwe is only $18.99 and beyond perfect for the transition between summer and fall! It's right on trend and stylish thanks to its stripes, off-the-shoulder design, sleeve bow ties, and hi-low hem.

It goes great with jeans, and the hem is long enough that you can easily wear it with some fall leggings and boots! The hem would look super cute sticking out beneath a neutral sweater for those cooler night temps too. The material is soft, cozy, and lightweight enough to layer or mix prints this season. It's basically perfect!

Apparel Candy Wishlist

*Note: This is a sponsored post. All opinions are my own. Thanks for supporting those who support Chow Down USA!

I'm all about affordable fashion, and Apparel Candy really takes the cake in this department. They sell clothes and accessories wholesale, which means they leave out the middle man that retailers use and thus can lower their prices to crazy low rates! They even have a section on their site where you can specifically browse pieces made here in the U.S., which is so great. Read on to see some of my fave pieces from their collection!

1 $10 // 2 $10 // 3 $5.75 // 4 $6.50 // 5 $6.50 // 6 $10

1 $3 // 2 $2.50 // 3 $2.50

1 $10 // 2 $8 // 3 $8.50 // 4 $7

Any of these pieces would be so perfect for fall, and they're affordable enough to buy in bulk for bachelorette parties, birthday outings, or holiday get-togethers!

Palm House San Francisco Review

Palm House San Francisco Review

Little known fact to those who haven't visited SF: San Francisco is not the quintessential hot and sunny California you may imagine or see on a post card. It often looks like this: cold and foggy, but beautiful nonetheless. Even more than its beauty, though, I love getting to catch up with friends and family in the City by the Bay.

On my recent trip home, you may recall our adventures feasting on tacos and Italian food. Read on to see and hear all about another fab meal: our girl brunch at Palm House in the Marina!

Palm House San Francisco Review

Girliest drinks ever, from left to right: Mai Tai, Coconut, Prickly Pear Mimosa, Aperol Prosecco Spritz. If I were to go back, I'd definitely get the coconut and / or the prickly pear mimosa again!

Huevos Ranchers, with scrambled farm eggs, black bean puree, crispy tortilla, queso fresco, mojo rojo, and mojo verde. Yum!

I got the Steamed Kalua Pork, with  sweet potato, green onion, tomatillo salsa verde, slow cooked eggs, and pork jus. It was so delicious and hearty, and a tad spicy for me but I'm sensitive to spicy foods.

Palm House San Francisco Review

I love the ambiance here! The ceiling is a giant skylight looking up to a palm tree and a colorful Victorian home which San Francisco is so known for.

After brunch, we strolled across the street to Sephora and around the Marina. We then took a 10 minute drive to the base of the Golden Gate Bridge and Fort Point. It was chilly, windy, foggy and perfectly San Francisco.

How to Mix Prints: Feat. Striped Maxi Wrap Skirt by Zaful

Skirt: c/o Zaful | Top: Brandy Melville (similar here, here and here) | Shoes: Steve Madden | Bag: Sears (similar here, here and here) | Watch: c/o 101 Watch | Necklace: c/o Posh Human

I'm loving so many trends this season, from velvet, to off-the-shoulder pieces, to mixing prints. Unfortunately, pattern mixing can be like walking that tricky line between chic fashion and tacky style. I thought it may be helpful to share some tips and tricks I've picked up to make sure you stay on the right side of that line!

To demonstrate, I mixed a grey glen plaid off-the-shoulder crop top with this striped wrap maxi ($17.99!) from Zaful (see other blogger looks from Zaful and as well as reviews). Remember a while back when I mentioned waiting for hours in line for that Brandy Melville warehouse sale? Well it was worth it because I picked up this top from there for just $5!

This oh-so-chic skirt is my first piece from Zaful, and has single-handedly made me a loyal customer for obvious reasons! It's effortlessly chic, comfortable, easy to wear, and affordable - checking off all my fashion boxes! I still cannot believe it's just $17.99Its hi-low hem gives it such an ethereal feel, and the wrap which ties at the back is so unique and darling. There's even a slit in the waistband to pull the tie through so that it stays level. I adore how it ties in a bow so quaintly at the back. The wrap also ensures that it's one size fits all. I'm 5'3" and it just barely sweeps the ground at this length, which is also adjustable depending on how high you tie it. Plus, the maxi length combined with its flowy wrap style makes it the perfect transition piece for fall. Expect to see this one on major repeat this season!

How to Mix Prints

1. Match one bold print with a more subdued pattern.

The key here is to not make it look too busy. See how the bold stripes on the skirt stand out, while the grey glen plaid top is much more subtle? This gives a balance to the patterns, so they're not dueling for the limelight.

2. Tone down the rest of the outfit.

There's already enough going on with multiple prints in one outfit. keep your shoes, bag and accessories neutral if your top and skirt are two differing patterns.

3. Don't overdo it.

Don't get it twisted - the mixing prints trend does not give you a free fashion pass to throw on every pattern you own. Start with mixing two prints, and MAYBE add a third one day when you feel really comfortable with the mixing trend.

4. Mix tailored and flowy pieces.

Each print item should bring its own flavor to the outfit. Pairing a tailored piece (like this fitted top), with a flowy piece (e.g. this skirt), brings a second balance to the look other than the print juxtaposition. This adds multiple levels of cohesiveness to the outfit.

5. Keep colors in mind.

Patterns are more than their graphics - think about the color matching as well! In this look, I paired a grey and black top with a white and dark navy skirt which looks nearly black. I added these black block heels from Steve Madden which are so versatile and pulls the look together. The pop of color from my bag really makes the top and skirt stand in further solidarity with each other. Their colors are similar which makes them balance each other nicely, despite their different patterns.

6. The Type of Print Matters

It is said that stripes, especially black and white stripes, are almost considered a neutral. That's because graphic prints are easier to mix than floral or animal prints. One exception to this rule is leopard, which is often also considered a neutral especially in clutch or shoe form.

7. Confidence is Key

The truth is, despite all of these rules, the most important trick in the book is always to have fun and own it! No matter what you're wearing, you can pull off anything with a knowing smile and a twinkle in your eye. If you love it and you're comfortable in it, that's the most important thing.
