The great thing about fashion is that it can inspire you and shape your disposition, which shapes your day in turn. When you put on a great dress or have a good hair day, you feel like you can take on the world, and it becomes a positive self-fulfilling prophecy. On these days you smile a little bigger, have a clear mind and look others in the eye with confidence. I bring this up because whenever I wear a piece from esteemed NYC designer Minan Wong, I get this exact feeling of confidence and inspiration.
You may remember my previous collaboration with Minan (this windowpane top is still one of my go-to chic pieces when I’m feeling fabulous)! The Minan Wong line takes inspiration from the always chic Audrey Hepburn, of whom I have a ginormous silhouette poster on my wall and have always admired. I love how her pieces evoke the same class, femininity, and subtle style of Audrey, all with a modern twist.

Take this dress, for example. I can’t help but feel like such a “Modern Aubrey” in it, which is a feeling I cherish! It takes your classic and timeless LBD, and adds an edge to the hem – literally. The inspiration for the hem partly stems from the idea that we as a society need to come together more, intertwine, and get back to being peaceful and social with one another. I couldn’t agree more. It also reminds me of my favorite Disney story – Sleeping Beauty. Remember when Prince Philip rides up on his horse with his sword of truth and field of virtue, and hacks away the thorny brambles that Maleficent has put up around the castle? It’s edgy details like this that make a classic LBD so interesting and unique.
During our recent NYC trip I was lucky enough to meet Mimi, the designer behind Minan Wong. She is such a strong, inspiring and sweet person! Her line is available in Nolita (North Little Italy) in the Flying Solo boutique. Flying Solo is so cool because it’s owned by a group of 30-40 designers who all support each other and work together to create amazing and unique pieces to inspire you. I definitely recommend stopping by if you’re in NYC! P.S. I heard Leonardo DiCaprio and other big stars have been seen in the area lately – it’s clearly the place to be!
Some other pieces from Minan Wong’s fall / winter collection – I was swooning over everything! How gorgeous is that burgundy coat?

This fold-down zipper sweater is so chic, and get this – it’s made from YAK wool! How cool is that? It’s from a group of people in Tibet who are nomads, depending on the yaks for survival and following their migration throughout the year. During the summer the yaks go to a higher elevation and shed their wool since it’s too hot for them, and the people make a livelyhood selling the wool. It’s great to wear something that not only is exotic, unique, and from afar, but knowing that it helps this group of people make a living makes it meaningful on another level.
Can we just talk about these straps for a second? Talk about unique! They’re so stylish while having personality, and the left straps hug your shoulder as if a comforting hand is resting there!
As you can probably tell, I’m a huge fan of Minan Wong and encourage you all to check out her line – which is designed and made entirely locally, mostly in NYC with some production in LA. Shopping local and small is so important these days, and it’s crucial to support thoughtful artists such as Minan Wong!
