Quarantine Date Ideas
The global pandemic threatens not only our physical health, but our mental and emotional health too. Months of isolation and staying at home have made for an uneventful routine, and we realized we wanted to discover new activities while social distancing.
Please Note: While we’re not wearing masks in these photos, in “real life” we wear masks and gloves everywhere. Especially in the United States, COVID-19 is still a very real threat and we take every precaution to avoid people and enclosed areas, as well as wear safety equipment at all times when not at home.

Go for a (Secluded) Beach Stroll
There are a few tricks to a safe beach stroll these days. For one thing, avoid all major and popular beaches. Go off the beaten path a bit, go a little further down the road, or a less populated town.
Secondly, don’t go on a scorcher – those super hot summer days are when everyone will be piling onto the beaches. A little cool breeze or even a drizzle of rain never hurt, and you’re more likely to have the beach all to yourselves. Bring a sweater, long sleeves, and a hat, and you’ll be all set!
Thirdly, don’t go during peak hours. Try an early morning or sunset stroll. The lighting is nicer and you’re less likely to run into the main beach crowds. Just don’t forget your bug repellent since the mosquitos tend to come out in the evenings!
Drive-In Movie Theaters (at home or outdoors)
If no drive-in movie theaters are open in your area, create your own at home! Set up a projector for Netflix on the garage door or an empty wall, put a blanket in the trunk and open the back for a makeshift drive-in movie experience! Bonus points for adding stringed lights around the screen for added aesthetic. P.S. Don’t forget the popcorn!
Rent a Boat or Kayak
A great way to enjoy a water date while getting some peace and quiet is to rent a boat or kayak. This way, you’ll always have plenty of distancing from any strangers and you’ll be out in the open air. Boating is so fun for those who enjoy the water, and getting off land for a while really changes your perspective for the better. Kayaks especially can be so relaxing!

Cook, Drink, or Order In a New Cuisine
Cooking together and trying new foods can be an exciting way to bring you together and break up your usual meal routine. We recently tried a local Brazilian restaurant which turned out to be incredible, and we took a virtual cocktail class with Dovetail where we learned to make Old Fashioneds from scratch!
Themed Date Night In
Switch things up by having themed date nights where you dress up and get into new characters! Some theme ideas:
- Decades: Roaring ’20’s, 50’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s
- Glamorous
- Safari
- Hawaiian Luau
- Locations: Italy, France, Japan, Mexico, etc.
Team Up to Complete a Unique Puzzle
We recently found a puzzle so unique we simply couldn’t pass it up! It’s a Game of Thrones themed puzzle which is shaped like a GLOBE! It took a little over an hour to complete since we managed to team up with a good strategy and even took a timelapse of the whole thing. I can’t promise this one won’t have stressful moments – like the time we thought we were missing a piece – but it will all be worth it in the end!
Take A Walk Somewhere New
Did you know when you take a new path your brain actually creates new synapses? Try exploring a new neighborhood or nearby park together, and try to stay in the moment. Notice new plants, flowers, houses, views, and share them with each other. We took a quick staycation to this beach in Provincetown in Cape Cod, MA and saw so many new beautiful sights here.
Try A New Hiking Trail
Another great way to get out in nature together is to go a little further than a walk – a hike! This will give you a chance to put your phones down and see some incredible views. Not sure where to start? Try searching on hiking apps like AllTrails or ViewRanger, or searching on social media – like #bostonhikes.
Try Online Couples Yoga (or Another Online Workout)
Working out together is a great way to support each other’s health – literally! Couples yoga is a relaxing and meditative way to break up the usual routine, be in the moment together while getting a good workout in. Check out YouTube for plenty of free videos!
Swing from a Ropes Course
Ropes courses are a great unique way to get outside while building trust, overcoming your fears, and getting a good workout in. Plus, you’ll see some amazing views! There’s a great ropes course just outside of Boston, and a quick google search will tell you if there’s any near your city too!
Play Catch, Frisbee, or Cornhole
Not everything has to be a big plan! Sometimes the most fun date idea is just to run around outside tossing a football, frisbee, or playing a leisurely game of cornhole (like this cornhole set that lights up at night)!
Have a Candlelight Picnic
16 Candles style! Cook a nice meal or order a pizza, light some candles and have an at-home picnic in the backyard or living room.
Make a Fort
Go casual and make a fort out of pillows and blankets! Even just making the fort can be a fun team effort, and once it’s created you have a cozy cave for Netflix and reading.
